What’s Shaping Eye Care?
In collaboration with renowned experts from India, the USA, UK, and China, our team at SSEI, led by Dr. Jay Sheth, Faculty Retina Services, has contributed to a groundbreaking review article in the Survey of Ophthalmology journal. This article explores a significant eye condition impacting millions worldwide: Macular Neovascularization (MNV).
MNV occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow in the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for detailed vision. This can result in severe vision impairment and is commonly associated with conditions like age-related macular degeneration and high myopia. Symptoms include blurred vision, distorted images, difficulty seeing colors, and challenges with reading. Early detection is key, and advanced retinal imaging, particularly optical coherence tomography (OCT), enables accurate diagnosis and timely intervention. Treatments, such as targeted eye injections, can help stop the growth of abnormal blood vessels and preserve vision.
MNV is a leading cause of vision loss globally, significantly affecting quality of life. Our research highlights the importance of early diagnosis, innovative treatment options, and a personalized approach to managing this condition. By bringing together global expertise, we aim to raise awareness, improve patient outcomes, and advance the field of eye care. This work is a step forward in preventing vision loss and improving the lives of those impacted by MNV.
