COMPREHENSIVE OPHTHALMOLOGY

Our comprehensive ophthalmologists offer regular diagnostic, medical, and surgical services to address eye disorders as well as provide a prescription for contact lenses and glasses

What is Comprehensive Ophthalmology?

Comprehensive ophthalmology services include screenings for eye diseases and disorders, visual acuity exams, prescriptions for eyeglasses or contact lenses, and surgical treatment. A Comprehensive Ophthalmologist may also serve as the entry point for patients needing further medical or surgical services, as they specialize in medical and surgical first-line treatments for disorders such as cataracts, dry eye, conjunctivitis, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma.

When to seek help?

You should visit your ophthalmologist if you suddenly notice any of the following:

  • Redness, itching, pain, watering, or discharge
  • Any injury or foreign objects/substances going into the eye
  • Abnormal eye positions, crossed eyes, or double vision
  • Vision impairment in either one or both eyes
  • Any wavy lines, spots, curtain-like shadows
  • Blurry or hazy vision, flashes of light or haloes around lights
  • Any changes in your color vision

We recommend that you have a complete eye examination every 2 to 3 years. If you have any significant family history of diseases such as glaucoma or diabetes or you are over the age of 50, an annual eye examination is ideal.

For children, visual function is monitored by the pediatrician in the first year of life, and if required, the child may be referred to an ophthalmologist. From three years of age, an annual examination is ideal.

WHAT DOES OUR COMPREHENSIVE OPHTHALMOLOGY CLINIC OFFER?

At the Shantilal Shanghvi Eye Institute, our team of Comprehensive Ophthalmologists is dedicated to diagnosing and addressing a diverse array of eye conditions with the highest quality of medical and surgical care. Our Comprehensive Ophthalmology Clinic also offers two unique services:

Express Comprehensive Eye Screening

A high-tech machine- Remidio-Visionix VX650 will be used for a quick and thorough eye examination, allowing patients to return for a detailed evaluation at their convenience if the condition permits. It examines various eye health parameters including refractive error, eye pressure, dry eye, cataract status, disc evaluation (with particular reference to glaucoma), and retinal status (with particular reference to diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration).

Tele-ophthalmology

We offer virtual consultations, remote screening for eye diseases, digital imaging, and remote monitoring of patients with chronic eye conditions. Elderly people and bed-ridden patients who need long-term follow-up care for diseases such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy will particularly benefit from this. When possible, we will also provide virtual appointments for follow-up appointments.
