Dr. Mekhla Naik

Dr. Mekhla Naik is a senior Cataract surgeon and leads the Comprehensive Ophthalmology department at Shantilal Shanghvi Eye Institute. Dr. Naik is an established and accomplished surgeon with extensive experience in the field of Ophthalmology. She has dedicated her professional life to advancing the field of ophthalmology by providing optimal patient care, conducting research, and adopting innovative technological advances. She has a particular interest in cataracts, ocular surface disorders, and community ophthalmology.

Dr. Naik has long provided significant support for Community Opthalmology work in her previous roles as a Faculty at Lotus Eye Hospital, Mumbai, and Lotus Eye care  Hospital, Coimbatore. She was part of many health initiatives such as cataract surgical camps and paediatric screening camps, which aimed to transform public healthcare delivery. She is one of the key collaborators for the Mumbai Eye Disease Study (MEDiS), a first-of-its-kind epidemiological study designed to better understand the ophthalmic practice patterns, eye-care delivery models, and spectrum of eye disorders in Mumbai. This research will help address city-specific eye health challenges and expand quality, accessible eye care for all.

Dr. Mekhla Naik has a variety of interests outside of the field of ophthalmology, including cooking and dancing. She has been trained in Western dance styles and also manages her chocolate-baking freelancing venture with great enthusiasm.
