OCULAR MICROBIOLOGY

Our cutting-edge microbiology laboratory specializes in precise diagnosis of infection and selection of the appropriate therapy, thus ultimately improves patient outcomes

Microbiology at SSEI

Our ocular microbiology laboratory serves as the investigative unit dedicated to safeguarding the ocular health of our patients. Eyes are a vulnerable frontier, constantly encountering an array of microorganisms, some capable of inducing site threatening infections. These organisms, commonly referred to as bugs or microbes, form the primary focus of study for ocular microbiologists. Our highly skilled team of ocular microbiologists and technicians identify and study these trouble-causing microorganisms and help our ophthalmologists to develop strategies for managing ocular infections.

Clinical Services

Bacteriology: Equipment such as BACTEC FX (400) for blood and sterile body fluid cultures, and VITEK 2 COMPACT for the identification and susceptibility testing of bacteria and yeast are available at our state-of-the-art laboratory. Results are obtained in the form of minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC), providing clinicians with valuable insights from a therapeutic standpoint. Additionally, anaerobic cultures and identification are conducted in this department.

Mycology: We offer early diagnosis of fungi through Calcofluor staining. We culture various yeasts, molds, and dimorphic fungi, identifying them using slide culture and LPCB stain.

Serology: Our serology department offers a range of tests such as HIV, HBV, and HCV Elisa.
